DISASTER IN IKONO UYO: AKHA steps in

…as Uyo Lawmaker makes case for Victims

Member Representing Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Anietie Eka, during today’s plenary raised concern over massive destruction caused by devastating tropical wind in Nung Asang Ikono, and Ikot Obio Villages in Uyo Local Government Area and called for urgent government intervention.

Hon. Eka raised the concern on the floor of the House by way of matter of urgent public importance titled: Massive Destruction Caused by Devastating Tropical Wind Storm in Nung Asang Ikono and Ikot Ebo Communities in Uyo Local Government Area.

In a three prayer, Hon. Eka urged the State delegation including the State Emergency Management Agency to undertake an assessment of the extent of damage occasioned by the natural disaster with a view to providing relief and aid to these affected communities and those displaced by the windstorm.

He also prayed for government to urge the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to intervene and provide succor to the affected homeless widows and children.

He urged the House to mandate the relevant House committee or special committee to liase with the various agencies of government towards providing a proactive emergency management and response to Akwa Ibom citizens.

The speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, directed the House Committee on Environment to collaborate with the State Emergency Management Agency, look into the matter and report back to the House within one week.

Agenda Setting for Pastor Umo Eno

Asked why he settled for Pastor Umo Eno as his preferred successor, Governor Udom Emmanuel gave a simple unambiguous answer. “I mean well for Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

Governor Emmanuel further amplified what he meant. Like a man who saw tomorrow, he delved into the realm of prognostication. He reeled out an agenda of expectations he believed, Pastor Umo Eno is coming, equipped and vested to accomplish.

Describing Pastor Eno’s credentials Governor Emmanuel said, “He is a successful entrepreneur who has employed our people and lifted thousands from poverty to prosperity.”

Governor Emmanuel added assuredly that, “He(Pastor Umo Eno), will be coming to the office of Governor with an economic blueprint that will further guarantee employment, development, and economic prosperity for our people.
He is a man of peace and will ensure that the peace and security of life we have enjoyed… will be maintained.”

With that point blank attestation, Governor Emmanuel had set a lofty agenda for the incoming Governor. At this time, the ARISE Agenda wasn’t born. It was in the womb of time and destiny of a man God had predestined for the top job of leading Akwa Ibom State from May 29, 2023.

God opened Governor Emmanuel’s eyes to see beyond the ordinary. He was spot on. When Pastor Umo Eno unveiled his blueprint for the future, to launch Akwa Ibom State into socioeconomic development and prosperity as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, any keen observer could only in retrospection exclaim, “Udom is right!”

Although a very detailed workplan and concise document spelling out, programmes, projects and policies for implementation, timelines in the short, mid and long term, expected outcomes and accomplishments, the ARISE Agenda is abridged to five nuggets, outlined as:

*Agricultural Revolution,
*Rural Development
*Infrastructural Maintainance/Advancement
*Security Management
*Educational Advancement

One cannot honestly interpret the ARISE Agenda without agreeing with Governor Emmanuel that this suffices as an economic blueprint that will guarantee employment, development, and economic prosperity for our people.

Pastor Umo Eno is a man prepared for the onerous task and isn’t coming to learn on the job. In his private capacity as an entrepreneur, he has a track record that speaks volumes. Undoubtedly, he is blessed with the midas touch.

I agree with Governor Emmanuel also that, Pastor Umo Eno’s life story resonates with the story of most ordinary Akwa Ibom people who rise to the occasion and greatness through daunting challenges to make their mark.

A new golden era is upon us inhabitants of the territory called Akwa Ibom State. I see too many happy hours. I hear the rain of abundance. Are you even ready for what is coming? God help the Governor-Elect, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.

Akwa Ibom State Governor- Elect, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged the people of Akwa Ibom State to continue imbibing the message of love, peace and sacrifice which our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ exemplifies.

In an Easter message released by his media aide, Anthony Udoh, the Governor-Elect enjoined the people of the State “to love one another and be ready to sacrifice for the common good, just as our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, did for us, over two thousand years ago.

“Easter is a period of sacrifice, of the wholesome display of undiluted love, of the reawakening and renewal of our spirit of altruism and the embrace of salvation, and redemption which our Lord and Saviour paid for, on the Cross.

“As we celebrate this important event in the Christian calendar, I urge you to continue to love one another, reach out to those who may be going through difficult moments and assure them to remain hopeful and optimistic.

“We should work to expand the layers of our unity and deemphasize those things that divide us.

Akwa Ibom is rising and is poised to continue to A.R.I.S E ., in unity, in love and in growth and development.

“Happy Easter and God bless us all”!

… We’ll Deliver 5 over 5 for PDP – LG Chairman

In line with his development blueprint codenamed the ARISE Agenda, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has promised to develop the popular Ibeno Beach to boost tourism in the state.

Ibeno has been the capital base where we have all done businesses so I’m one of you, I’m part of you. I know Ibeno, I have families in Ibeno.

“When we started our church ministry, after Eket, the first branch we established was in Ibeno and it’s still standing till today. That goes a long way to show you how much I love Ibeno people. THE GRAND PLOT AGAINST EPHRAIM INYANGEYEN

“It is in the character of very few men to honour without envy for a friend who has prospered” -Aeschylus

By Substance Udo-nature

Akparawa Ephraim InyangEyen, Chief of Staff (Cos) to Governor Udom Emmanuel, has proven to be the proverbial cat with many lives. He knows how to bite the bullet, to say the least.

The fact is that his foes and fiends, in their fun and folly, have turned into a sport the act of putting words in his mouths, poaching his entitled and privileged private and public territories merely to disparage, possibly distract, or mischievously cause collateral damages to his name, using media and non-media apparatuses and apparatchiks.

As if to play the devil’s advocate, let me say that, insofar as Inyangeyen remains critical to the success of the Completion Agenda; still doing what he is doing the way he is doing; still keeping his personal ideologies; he remains on the hit list of critics. We are only waiting for the final series of worst episodes of the script.

I was at an event recently, sitting by chance close to one of the big names in Akwa Ibom State, his identity which anonymity forbids me to disclose.

Unplanned, it happened that we had a brief lively conversation across some trendy and topical issues of the week, while waiting for the event to start in the annoying tradition of “African time”.

There was no telling that the man is rooted in many matters of special and general interest. Without flaunting his depth and station, the man who apparently talked like someone politics has not blinded, explored with modest authority and dexterity every matter that propped up between us.

A little into the discussion, a call came through his phone. It was instantly obvious by his facial expression that he didn’t want to answer to the call although it was even more obvious he knew the caller.

The call came again, and again, and again, and would have come again in that disturbing frequency if he didn’t pick it, with suppressed grumbling, and then excused me, stepping out of the hall.

Not long, he returned, with residues of worry and rebuke he could not completely erase from his face. “I can’t just explain why we are like this in this State just because we don’t like somebody or are jealous for whatever reason”, he soliloquised with a dismissive sigh as he sunk back into his seat. I successfully conquered the pressing urge to immediately identify and sympathize with his feelings.

“I’m sorry my brother”, the man rather told me with a courtesy that confirmed his cultured civility, “that call was from a journalist. They write things they are not sure of or are simply paid to do by some funny characters; and even with your reaction, they still would go ahead to write nonsense in a way you begin to wonder”.

I endorsed his position with a contemplative nod. He then continued:

“What is really so big about this 2023? There was a screaming headline in a paper this morning that was utterly untrue and disparaging about Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen. I say so because I was at the same event he is alleged to have made some statements. The man never at any point said those things he is quoted to have said. I have no personal relationship with the Chief of Staff, but the truth must be told”.

It was nice to see someone defend somebody like that in his absence. Only few persons enjoy such goodwill!

But as time and events have shown, these things can only bemuse or surprise the credulous or a total stranger in town. Those who have been around are already used to them, like Inyangeyen himself has.

I personally was aware of the said imaginative and sensational story about Inyangeyen and 2023 that the man was referring to in one of the local tabloids of that day, and even the week before.

But it couldn’t have been a surprise to me. In the past six years, there hasn’t been any edition of some newspapers that Inyangeyen did not say something he never said or did something he never did.

These jobbers are increasingly in the habit of putting up stunts to make Inyangeyen’s life appear desperately ambitious and untrustworthy in the eyes of the public and those who love him.

Going by record of serial attacks on him by leftist media, it could be said that the worst of tactics that may not yet have been tried on him must be those to be invented tomorrow as the onslaught is likely to gear towards the climax in days ahead.

Three apparent things this may have revealed is that, one, they are both envious of Inyangeyen’s demonstrable capacities and worried about what greater opportunities his clean credentials may fetch him tomorrow. In that regard, Inyangeyen becomes a constant threat in his innocence.

Two, they want to cause distrust and generate suspicions in quarters that value Inyangeyen’s character, abilities and services. The third reason is that blackmailers have mistaken for weakness Inyangeyen’s diplomatic silence and refusal to be drawn into fits and spells of altercations and recriminations, which would have provided incentives for them to be madder.

But these are all old tactics that never worked. One might only worry, if there was any need to worry, about how bad the trend may become as we move forward towards 2023. Inyangeyen appears to have been marked for the worst campaign of calumny.

Ordinarily, it smacks of sheer wickedness to persecute a man in this way, without regards to his entitled personal liberty and preferences, and of course, the right to live.

Judged by the momentum of the moment in a State majority see politics as a means to an end, the extent to which blackmail and propaganda driven by media gangsterism shall be deployed in the build-up to the 2023 elections cannot presently be ascertained. But every stroke of the signals is ominous.

For Inyangeyen, there is nothing imaginative and ridiculous that has not been heard, watched or read about him. Even when he was not there, he is said to have been seen there; even when he was there, he is said not to have been seen there; in his silence, he is quoted; when he has imperative reasons to speak, he is misconstrued and misquoted.

Lord Chesterfield it was who said that “People hate those who make them feel their own inferiority”. Could this be how Inyangeyen’s excellent stewardship and accrueable blessings have made some persons feel?
